Where I whine about computer problems
Last fall, my two year old Dell broke. It was less than a month past its two year repair contract, and it was a brick (to make a long story short). So I got a new Dell with a three year contract.
Well, this one has never worked quite right, although I don’t think it’s Dell’s fault. I can’t find anyone who can tell me why, but I have weird issues such as being unable to load certain websites on any browser from any location. I can look at comics.com from my itouch right now, but if I try to pull it up on my computer, it’s a no go. Even weirder, I can go to comcast.com, but I can’t access any other comcast.com location; only the homepage works. If I try to logon to pay my bill, I get nothing. It doesn’t matter which browser I use; I even tried running ubuntu seemlessly in windows, and that didn’t work (which makes absolutely no sense).
The final straw happened just now. I was supposed to be on a web conference for work, and the computer simply wouldn’t do it on any browser. I spent an hour with an exasperated tech support lady in India (I assume) before I threw in the towel. The weird part was how it started reinstalling the telephone software in the middle of the install. And no, it doesn’t have a virus or any other malware. It’s just messed up.
And I am ditching Vista (I’m actually running Win7 right now, but it offers marginal improvements to Vista), too. I have an XP disc, and I will happily switch back to that antiquated OS. Microsoft just hasn’t improved things much since XP. I can’t tell you how irritated I am that I have to run windows at all.
And I’m looking forward to Google kicking Microsoft’s OS a$$.
