Future librarian?

I need more of this. Because there’s sickness in the house – and a very small baby – I had to take off work today. I don’t’ need the sickness, but having time just sitting here drinking coffee, watching tv with the toddler, and holding the baby is pretty close to paradise. Let’s just say it’s lovely.
Is blogging still meaningful now that there’s Facebook?
Is there any point in writing anything here if anything I write there gets 10x the readers?
Maybe it’s not about the readers. Maybe it’s about the content and control of the content. Maybe it’s about the restrictions and lack of restrictions.
Maybe it’s just about me.
Anyway.
We took C off the milk boppies about three weeks ago now, I guess, or was it longer? I knew that it was time, and I was looking forward to fewer milk spills and a more well-rounded diet, but there have been some other really cool benefits, too, such as going been nearly a week since I’ve been to the grocery store.
When C was a milk addict, I always had to keep the fridge stocked. I went to the grocery store three times a week at least just to keep the milk in the fridge. And some of those trips were at hours when I should’ve by all rights been asleep. It’s at least 3 times easier to give her water than to give her milk.
And we are still trying to give her milk, just not in bottles. But she steadfastly refuses. Even though she was a certified milk addict, she doesn’t seem to actually like milk.
I get that.

I got off the phone with Katie this morning, while I was on my way to work, and C said “that’s my mama! I like her.”
Katie spent the night in Nashville last night after a conference, so the kids and I had a mama-free night (pizza and tv, even though it was a school night!). We all missed Katie, but we banded together to try to distract C, who couldn’t understand why her mom wasn’t there.
I wonder what C’s life would be like if she could choose. I think she’d have all of her loved ones in one room watching Nick Jr.

How do I know it will snow? Because my highly anticipated new phone is coming via FedEx and is supposed to be here at 4:30. I had it shipped to my office, because it was supposed to arrive today. But it didn’t ship until this morning, so now it will be coming right when there is a 70% chance of the white stuff.
Joy.

It’s the time of the year for lists. All of the good music sites have been rolling out best new music lists, but my list is best new to me music. As Zoolander would say, “which is more meaningful, I think.”
I’ve been working on this list in my head for a few weeks now, and I think there are two funny things about it: 1) there are a lot of pre-2009 records on here, and 2) several of them are so well-known that it’s beyond me why I’ve just now discovered them.
Anyway, here’s the list, in no particular order. By the way, this is a list of best albums, not best music. I’m a huge fan of the album. I know some people think it’s on its way out, but I don’t, or at least I very much hope they’re wrong. Here goes:
Angus and Julia Stone – A Book Like This
Apples in Stereo – Fun Trick Noisemaker
Electrelane – No Shouts, No Calls
The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and Soft Bulletin
Girl Talk – Feed the Animals (Parental Advisory!)
Matt & Kim – Matt & Kim
The National – Boxer (Parental Advisory!)
The Notwist – Neon Golden
The Rural Alberta Advantage – Hometowns
Sister Suvi – Now I am Champion
Thao with the Get Down Stay Down – We Brave Bee Stings and All (better than her new album, IMHO)
Yo La Tengo – Popular Songs
The two most disappointing new releases of the year were Throw Me the Statue’s Creaturesque and Fanfarlo’s Reservoir, although for different reasons – the TMtS album was horrible, and the Fanfarlo album was just weak when I expected it to be amazing.
So there you go.

C just called me her best friend. She was going downstairs with my mom and said “daddy’s my best friend!”
I just want to take note of this. It’s January 4, 2010, C is 2 and almost a half, and I am her best friend.
