Does she get an audience when she uses the potty? I know my cousin's kid is recently potty trained (or at least mostly potty trained) and every time he uses the potty he has an audience cheering him on. He loves it. The other bribe that comes to mind would be having matching underwear. Could you get her some underwear that match with her sister's or her cousin's?

C is a relatively new 3 y/o, right? My son was just 3 when he mastered doing #1, (beginning outside, and boys love to go al fresco ...), and it was a full year before we mastered #2. Honestly, it was sending him to spend a week with my kind MIL that got him to do his #2s in the toilet. It was very hard to be patient and I'll admit I lost my patience, a lot.

I honestly don't think it is unusual for her not to be potty trained yet, despite what you're hearing from family and friends. And she is controlling one of the few things she can after not having been able to control much in a time of upheaval.

Good old fashioned bribery might work. Like, if she wanted to take dance lessons, or do some other activity or get some kind of treat-- "Oh, well, those are for big girls. You can't wear diapers to do that." It may be a motivator. Potty books helped, and I think there is an Elmo/Sesame Street special about using the potty, which may also encourage her a bit more.

I would avoid pressuring her of course, but maybe you can mention some type of 'grown up' activity that she can do when she's potty trained. (an overnight visit somewhere?) My niece was very proud of her 'big girl undies' and we made a big deal out of taking her shopping for those. If you make it a right of passage she may be more motivated. I think my nieces also got a kick out of the Once Upon a Potty book, and we acted it out with the doll. Play acting with the doll can also give you some insight if she has any worries about it.

i think that C is dealing with all the changes in her life the only way she can...and the potty is one of the things she can control.
it is hard when you are done with poop ( toddler or big girl poop is even harder) to deal with.

keeping herself in diapers is something she knows and it is safe for her.

when you are changing her diaper she is have one on one interaction with you or mom or her gma.

this would be normal behavior for a child who just and only had a new sibling to deal with some go from being completely PT to diapers again....

c has had that and more to deal with that would put a healthy grownup in to the snake pit.

having said all that. i have found keeping my 3 year old nude. helps LOTS

Oh boy. Your post is exactly what I needed to read right now. I have 2 little girls, one will be 2 in a couple weeks, the other just turned 3. My 3 year old is just like C. She has all the mechanics down but she just doesn't WANT to go to the bathroom in the potty. My soon-to-be 2 year old, on the other hand, just decided "overnight" to start using the bathroom. That part is great. I'm just completely dumbfounded on how to get my 3 year old to go.

Reminds me of sitting in Church holding someone else's baby. I said to the younger brother (about 4?), "I think she wants her foo-foo" (yea, that's what we call them here). When I got a funny look, I repeated, "Does she have a foo-foo?" The toddler looked at his mother and said, "Mommy, she needs her pacifier."

I like it when the songs make me feel good. I love it when I feel I really know the artist.

I don't think I ever spiritually forget it or downgrade it, but physically, I simply put it away for my newer recording, get engrossed in the newer recording (listen to two or three songs 100 times) and forget I own the first one. Later, when I happen on it again, I love it all over again!
