I was staying at Betsy W’s house, where I left the cupcakes in my car overnight (my dreadful secret is out!), and K was staying at her mom’s house (the wedding was in her back yard). Four years later, I still think that was the best wedding ever had by anybody in the history of weddings, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

And the marriage part, too!

You are the best, Kate!

And, yeah, it’s gonna be good.

C is now three years old, and we thought she’d be long-since potty trained by now; she is not. She showed some interest a year or so ago, but now we have encouraged her in every way possible – we’ve even tried bribing her with m&m’s – but it’s a no go. Most of the time, she flat-out refuses to go in the bathroom at all except for baths or to wash her hands (she looooves water).

So as I was changing her diaper this afternoon (we even switched back to cloth to try to make it more uncomfortable to have accidents), I asked her why she wasn’t using the potty. She tried giving a silly answer, but I pressed her for a real answer. She gave a flat out: “I’m just not interested.” I asked if she can tell when she is pooping: “Yes.” But is it uncomfortable to wear soiled diapers? “No.”

I don’t know what to do but be patient.

To be fair, she has had a very rough year for a toddler. I know that, and I’ve tried to give her some space. But it’s not always easy to be patient when in fact I am feeling quite impatient.

Now that that the car is loaded down with carseats, though, the daily commute has become more of a daily adventure. It’s hard enough driving a five speed while crossing your fingers that the baby won’t wake up, it’s nearly impossible to do the same while reaching your arm into the back seat and holding a pacifier or bottle in the baby’s mouth.

And no, I don’t really do that. At least not in traffic. Most days.

So far, this whole GA at work thing is going pretty well, I think. She is five feet away from me right now, fast asleep in her bed. She seems to be getting into a pattern of one good long nap of 2-3 hours around the middle of the day, and the rest of the day she is held by whoever can get to her first. Occasionally I get to hold her. This morning she had a long awake period when she just sat in my mom’s lap and looked around, and she hardly made a peep.

It’s still hard to believe that I now have two girls. And they’re both wonderful.

Leo hasn’t been to the vet in a while, so we had no clue how much he weighed. I don’t know if the photo does him justice, but I can tell you he is a big dog. He is big enough that if you saw us taking him for a walk, you’d say “you should ride that dog!” or “that’s not a dog, that’s a polar bear!” or “you should have the dog pull the stroller!” I know you’d say that, because that’s what everyone says.

Anyway, this morning we weighed him, and he is 125 pounds, even with a haircut. So there you go.

As I lie on the couch, sick at home instead of out of town with the rest of the family, I listen to music and read. That’s what I’ve done all day, except for taking the dog to the vet and giving him a bath. But I always have the tv on, even if it’s muted. If the kids wanted to do that, I’d say no. You can only do one activity at a time – either watch tv or play on the computer, not both; I’m sure the tv is not cheap to run.

Yet I can’t help it. If I am logical and turn it off, I will find myself turning it back on ten minutes later. Is it the movement in a dark house? Or is it something else – habit maybe? For some reason, I find it comforting. And I’m not proud of that.
