As far as early adopting goes, I got my first cell phone in 1996. I think that counts as pretty early, because I knew no one else who had one, other than my parents (the plan included a whopping thirty free minutes!). And I would know if anyone else had one, too, because you couldn’t exactly put those things in your pocket. I got my first nationwide phone in 2000, I think. Or maybe the year before. It was digital. I think I had a hundred minutes at that point.

But I’ve never really gotten into texting. I mean, it’s a hassle to use the little keypad on my Motorola. Sure, I texted from time to time, but I’ve never made a habit of it.

But recently I’ve discovered two things: 1) texting is way easier than calling, especially since I hate talking on the phone, and 2) texting is easier than emailing, especially since everyone I know has a cell phone and carries it 90% of the time. Oh, and don’t get me started on voice mail. Ugh.

Anyway, in the last month, I’ve used $10 worth of texts (outgoing) at twenty-five cents a pop. Which means that the $5 monthly fee for 250 texts seems to make a lot of sense.

So yeah, I’m brilliant and with the times.
