I did some tweaking behind the scenes at this blog and Katie’s. Hopefully, they’ll both move blazingly fast for everyone. I also played around with the php a little and fixed a problem I’ve been having for at least a year now, and I’m pretty psyched because it means upgrades in a super small fraction of the time it used to take.
Which reminds me of a pet peeve. Why do people say “it took a fraction of the time?” I know I’m being ridiculous, but every time I hear that, I think about how fractions can be small (1/100) or large (100/1). So “a fraction” is a pretty meaningless thing to say, at least technically.
Anyway, today ends one chaotic week. Katie has been working crazy hard lately, so I’ve been doing more home and family stuff than usual and have spent less time with friends, technology, music, and other leisurely stuff. But it’s only a short-term thing, so there’s an end in sight.
Oh, yeah, and Happy Birthday Katie!!!
I’m one of those people who have to get things accomplished to feel happy. And I haven’t done that enough lately.
Not that I should complain; the reasons I haven’t gotten much accomplished at home lately range from spending so much time with the toddler to watching football to hanging out with friends.
But when I woke up this morning feeling blue, I knew it was more than a case of the Mondays. I have a ton of stuff I really want to get done around the house, and I’m just not getting it done. With the help of a friends, I did get some drywall work done last week and a coat of paint put up in an upstairs bedroom. But I feel like I should’ve gotten two coats of paint done and the trim started. And I should be making more progress on getting C’s room ready. If nothing else, I’d like to have a clean kitchen and clean laundry!
It really is difficult getting stuff done with a toddler. Before C was born, Katie and I talked about how we didn’t want to have to have the TV on much for C. No TV babysitter unless absolutely necessary! But Katie works an insane amount of hours, and we have a big house and lots of people running around. Tonight, Katie won’t get home until after C is in bed, which usually happens for us one or two nights a week. Without an extra person to help out, I’m left with either the TV as the babysitter or more dirty dishes and unfolded laundry. And I’m not especially ok with that.
But I do hope to make it up to her by taking her on a good walk after supper. If only I can figure out what we’re going to eat….
I feel like I’m incredibly behind at work; I have stacks and stack of work on my desk, and I am evaluating new professional software and feeling guilty for not studying for the CPA exam.
And on top of that, I was off work all day yesterday because I was at the doctor’s office. I love working here in smalltownville (Sevierville), but I hate having to take a full day off of work because of one doctor’s appointment. On the upside, I’ve had stomach problems for years, and it looks like the doctor might have found a reason. I’m trying not to get too excited yet.
I love what Katie posted today. And she’s had a way busier week than I’ve had.
This weekend, I’m going to get back to drywalling. I’ve got at least four big holes to drywall. Two are ready for their last sanding and paint. One is squared off but barely begun. The last I haven’t yet looked at. I’ve never done drywall until this week, and I’m actually pretty excited about it. Every time I can fix something at the house, I don’t have to get someone else to fix it. I also intend to get some painting done this weekend.
And I get to watch some football.
It’s a pretty good life.
